TOP 5 Causes

You may come across a situation where you have low oil pressure at  the wrong time. For instance, if you step on the gas pedal to go faster  but there is not enough oil pressure being generated, then you have a  big problem. There are many reasons as to why this could be happening.  Do not always assume the worst-case scenario because it might not be  that bad.

To help you figure out what is going on, below are the top 5 causes of having low oil pressure in your engine.

1) Wrong Oil

– The manufacturer of every automobile  will recommend the best oil to use for its engine. Basically, the  viscosity of the oil must be adequate enough for the engine’s needs. If  the viscosity is too low, then your engine will experience lower oil  pressure inside of its passageways. A lot of people make this mistake  whenever they try to upgrade their oil to a different one. Don’t make  this mistake or else it could cause you problems on the road.

2) Low Level of Oil

   – It is important to check your oil  level every so often. If you end up with a low level of oil in your  engine, it will be harder for the oil pump to maintain consistent oil  pressure. Cars tend to have low oil levels if the oil has not been  changed in a long time. This is even more common with newer vehicles  too.

3) Worn Oil

 – If you leave the same oil in your engine  for too long, it will start to lose its much-needed viscosity. This  means the oil will thin out excessively and cause problems with the oil  pressure. Here is another reason why changing your oil at regular  intervals is important. Oil gets a little worn each time you drive your  vehicle. The more you drive, the more worn the oil gets. Check your  owner’s manual to see how many miles you need to drive between each oil  change.

4) Worn Oil Pump

 – The oil pump is what makes the oil  pressure magic happen. If your oil pump starts to go bad or gets worn  out, then it won’t be able to create the proper pressure for the oil  flow in the engine. Although this problem is rather uncommon, it can  happen.

5) Clogged Oil Filter

 – Oil needs to pass through a  filter to clean the contaminants out of it. Eventually, your oil filter  is going to get clogged with debris. Once that happens, it will restrict  the oil flow considerably. This will ultimately result in a huge oil  pressure reduction.

Symptoms of a clogged oil filter

Every 5,000 Kms; make that your promise to your car, or SUV. You should have oil and oil filter changed every 5,000 kms to ensure you don’t damage your engine. Why so often?  Because motor oil gets dirty fast and a clogged oil filter can end your  vehicle’s life. There are signs your oil filter is clogged, aside from  failure to get the oil changed. Here’s what they are so you can spot  them quickly.

Poor Performance

Poor performance can be any number of  things and a clogged oil filter is one of them. You will notice that you  press down on the accelerator and it seems as if nothing happens. Your  engine will lag and not pick up the speed it usually does. This is also  an indication of a clogged fuel filter, carburetor or fuel injector  problems, a clogged air filter, or transmission trouble.

Engine Sputters

The oil filter cleans the oil from  contaminants and then releases it into the engine so it can circulate  through the moving parts to lubricate them and collect heat. If the oil  filter isn’t releasing the motor oil into the engine, the parts will  suffer and your engine will sputter. You will notice it sputter more the  faster you go, and this problem shouldn’t be ignored because sputters  cause engine damage.

Audible Metallic Noise

If your engine is not getting enough oil  the parts are not properly lubricated. The result is metallic noise  created by the moving parts. This is usually grinding and if you hear  this noise, pull over right away, turn off the engine, and call your  roadside assistance service to get towed to the auto service shop. If  you allow the parts to continue to grind together, you’ll enact the  engine death sentence discussed above.

Low Oil Pressure

You should never see your oil pressure  gauge drop while you’re driving. If you do, you’ve got an oil problem.  Oil pressure drops can be caused by a clogged filter or a serious oil  leak, although leaks don’t usually just happen spontaneously. No matter  the cause, if our oil pressure gauge heads downward quickly, do the  above. Pull over and call for a tow to an auto shop. Don’t keep driving  your vehicle.

Exhaust That Is Dirty

Finally, a clogged oil filter can  affect your automobile’s exhaust. You shouldn’t see smoke coming out of  your tailpipe at all, except maybe a little white smoke when it’s cold  outside. If you see brown or black smoke exiting the pipe, your vehicle  could be burning fuel or oil. The smell of burning oil is strong, so you  might know right away that the exhaust is being caused by a clogged oil  filter.

Don’t drive with a clogged oil filter. Go to your service repairs to have your oil and filter changed today.

We Care Our Clients

ISO/TS16949 Standard

ISO/TS 16949:2016 specifies the quality system requirements for  design and development, production, installation and servicing of  automotive related products. There are also customer specific requirements that are required by individual subscribing vehicle  manufacturers.

ISO/TS 16949:2016 is an ISO Technical Specification, which aligns existing American, European automotive quality systems standards within the global automotive industry, with the aim of  eliminating the need for multiple certifications to satisfy multiple customer requirements.

Cars Guarantees, Warranties and Legal issues

Optimum Auto Parts Technologies oil, air and cabin filters are manufactured to ISO TS 16949 standard and are manufactured to OEM specification.

Consumer guarantees: These are statutory  guarantees that automatically apply to vehicle purchases and vehicle  servicing.  These apply regardless of any other warranty offered by a  seller or manufacturer. There is no requirement for a vehicle to be  serviced by an authorized dealer for consumer guarantees to apply. An  independent repairer can service a vehicle, and use his choice of  appropriate quality products, without affecting these guarantees.

Manufacturers warranties:  These are promises to the purchaser that:

  • the vehicle will be free from defects for a certain period of time
  • defects will entitle the consumer to a repair, replacement, refund or other  compensation.

The manufacturer’s warranty may set out requirements that purchasers  must comply with. For example, it may require them to ensure any  servicing is carried out:

  • by qualified staff
  • according to the manufacturer's specification
  • using appropriate quality parts where required

The ACCC has confirmed that, provided you service the vehicle in  accordance with any such requirements, the warranty will remain valid.  While manufacturers may recommend using authorized dealers to  service the vehicles, this is not always a requirement under a  manufacturer’s warranty. Check the terms.

In fact a manufacturer who warrants a vehicle on the condition it is  serviced by an authorized dealer may be contravening exclusive dealing  provisions of the Competition and Consumer Act.
